Notes on the parts of the trade that cost money when they go wrong — expiry, udhaar, records and stock — written for dealers in Pakistan rather than for a software audience.
Fertiliser has no expiry date to force your hand, so the losses are quieter — rate movement between buying and selling, and capital sitting in a godown. Both are visible if you count in the unit the trade uses.
Rabi is shorter than kharif, heavier on fertiliser, and harder on cash flow — you extend credit in October and collect after the April harvest. Here is how the season actually runs at the counter.
Cotton, rice and sugarcane do not arrive at your counter on the same day. Stocking for kharif is a sequence, and the shops that get it right are the ones holding the right thing in the fortnight it is asked for.
